Our Story

Diesel Doug has been around, check out what we have been up to and take a trip down memory lane.

Diesel Doug and The Long Haul Truckers are back!! After a nearly 10 year hiatus the hard charging Portland, Maine pioneers in the Americana movement have reformed and are playing and recording new music. From 1995 to 2005 Diesel Doug was a beloved Portland-based band. They released three critically acclaimed albums over their 10 year run; “An Angel Not a Saint” (1997) “The Fine Art of Carousing” (1999) and in 2005 “Mistakes Were Made” a retrospective compilation of unreleased tracks, live cuts and fan favorites. They toured the east coast and eastern Canada extensively, developing a solid and fervent fan base. And they shared the stage over the years with many of the great country and roots acts of the era including Wayne Hancock, Fred Eaglesmith, Dwight Yoakam and the legend, Willie Nelson. In 2005 the group disbanded to pursue other interests. Scott Link, the lead singer and principal songwriter, released a well received solo record “Coming Around” in 2007 and the seeds for the new line up of Diesel Doug &mTLHT were sown there. “After close to 10 years I still had people asking me about a Diesel Doug comeback.” says Link, “For several years I had little interest and wasn’t really even playing much at all. But over time as a performer you realize that you need to be performing. I had talked to the guys at different points about a reunion but that didn’t work out.” Replacing the original Truckers, Charlie Gaylord (guitar) Scott Conley (bass) and John Davison (drums) was no easy task but the new line up features some heavy hitters from the Maine music scene. Matt Robbins from King Memphis and Murcielago on guitar, Erik Glockler from Strangefolk on bass and Ginger Cote, who has toured with Emmy Lou Harris and Lucinda Williams, on drums. We started getting together over last winter and have been back on the scene here in Portland this summer and fall. New dates in New England and beyond will be coming down that line so stay tuned. The new line up got Scott’s juices flowing and new tunes are being recorded and will be released as they come along. The first new single “Bring Me Some Whiskey” cements the bands fresh style. Rooted in classic country but with a unique approach.

Please bring me some whiskey and maybe some Rye

Scott Link Solo

Scott Link & Those Poor Bastards

Scott has ventured out on his own in recent years. After releasing a solo record “Coming Around”, a full band album, in 2007 he started to develop a solo act. But that wasn’t always the answer and so “Those Poor Bastards” were born.  This format is full band but all acoustic with upright bass, acoustic guitars, dobro, and fiddle and with minimal (often no) percussion. Also, there are no set band members, Its sort of a “pick up” format of whomever is available for that gig.

HELP SUPPORT SCOTT’S NEW ALBUM – A RETROSPECTIVE

Scott says its a fun departure from the rambunctious Long Haul Truckers and allows the stories and characters in the songs to come forward. And it gives Scott a chance to play with a lot of different and talented musicians. Sometimes you just want to sit back sip the whiskey and listen, right?
